Very Expensive Lesson
Fine $394. Oh, my God.
In Washington State, it is illegal to pass a school bus with the stop sign signal activated. That includes drivers coming from both directions on two-lane roads. So if a school bus stops and puts out the flashing stop sign, you must stop, even if you aren't going the same direction. There are a few exceptions to the rule: on four lane roads, oncoming traffic is not required to stop (although all traffic going in the same direction as the bus must stop); and oncoming traffic on a divided two-lane highway is not required to stop.
If you do break the law, the school bus driver can report you, even if a police officer is not present. That report gets turned in to the police and they will investigate. If they think a law was broken based on the bus driver's report, a ticket will be issued- for up to $394.
What am I thinking?
This is really a bad day!!
Very expensive, but a lesson.
