Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Some may hold the opinion that grades are able to encorage students to learn. But others have a negitive attitude. As far as I am concerned, however, I agree that students can be encouraged to learn by grades. My arguments for this position are listed as follows: (1) grades can be a positive reinforcement for students, (2) students can understand their learning conditions by grades, and (3) students can gain objective evaluation.
First of all, no one can overlook the fact that students can be reinforced by good grades. For example, when students get good grades via their efforts, they will feel worthy of learning hard. Therefore, they are encouraged to learn. On the other hand, if students do not satisfy their grades, they will have incentive to study harder.
Fouthermore, another obvious advantage for grades is that students can gain information about their learning conditions. For example, if I get a failing grade on math, I will know that I need to put more effort on math. Moreover, gardes can help us to realize what advantages or disadvantages we have in our subjucts, hence we can accurately distrbute our time to the need depending on the learning requirement.
The third reason why I think grades have the effect on urging students to learn is that students can be evaluated objectively. For instance, through the grades rating, students will know whether their effort reaches the expectation of teachers or not. In other words, it represents that grades are the indicator for achieving curricular goals. As a result, when students find themselves getting unacceptable grades, they will pay more attention to their learning.
Taking into account of all my arguments listed above, I may reach the conclusion that grades are an important element to encorage students to learn. First, grades themselves are the reinforcement. Besides, students can realize their learning condition. Finally, they can get an objetive evaluation.
