[Newsflash] Teluk Intan MP and Tamil Students arrested at protest against INTERLOK

Teluk Intan Member of Parliament M Manogaran was arrested along with MS Arjunan from the Malaysian Tamil Students Progressive Associations (MATSAP) while demonstrating against the Interlok novel.
Manogaran (second from right), who is from the DAP, and Arjunan (far right) had arrived with a small crowd of activitists earlier this morning at the Subraminiyar temple at Batu Caves in Gombak, Selangor, to protest against the decision of the education ministry to make Interlok compulsory reading for Form Five students taking Malay literature in the SPM exams.
Police moved in and arrested Manogaran and Arjunan around noon.

虽然政府已决定在部分修改《连环扣》内容，但该小说所引发的风波却继续延烧。行动党安顺国会议员马诺卡兰（M Manogaran，右图右二）今天抗议政府坚持不撤除《连环扣》作为中五课本时，遭到警方逮捕。
马诺卡兰今早跟一小群的民众，到鹅唛著名的黑风洞兴都庙聚集抗议。
跟他一起被捕的还有一名来自大马淡米尔学生前进协会的阿祖南（MS Arjunan，上图右一）。
他们两人在中午时分遭到警方逮捕，并且被带返鹅唛警区总部。
《连环扣》掀起印裔抗议
数个单位包括非政府组织早前，针对《连环扣》的第211页与220页内容而向政府提出强烈的抗议，并指本书内容含有触及部分族群的敏感元素。一些组织更集体报警，甚至焚烧该书以表达他们的极度不满。
副首相兼教育部长慕尤丁在1月27日宣布，教育部将维持该小说作为中五课本的地位，惟将修改数个印裔社会认为有敏感的地方。
但部分印裔社会不认同这种妥协做法，坚决要求政府完全撤回《连环扣》。兴权会更在2月27日假吉隆坡双峰塔发动大型示威。惟示威遭遇警方强力镇压，导致109人被捕。
慕尤丁在3月24日宣布，教育部已接纳独立《连环扣》审查小组的建议，删除书中的“贱民”字眼，并解决总共19项涉嫌侮辱印裔的小说内容。
不过，部分印裔社会仍无法接受这样的决定，坚持政府撤回该小说作为课本的决定。而47个包括华团的民间组织在3月30日发表联署声明，同样要求撤回，并指控《连环扣》全书充斥马来人主权（Ketuanan Melayu）的意识形态。
