[Bernama] Gov't to probe Serdang Hospital ceiling collapse
A team has been formed to investigate the collapse of the ceiling in the main lobby of Serdang Hospital on Saturday.
Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said the probe would identify whether the collapse was due to failure of the structure, design or maintenance.
He said the Public Works Department (PWD) team was asked to complete the investigation in one week.
"We need forensic investigation and not just structural inspection. A structural report is not enough," he said after visiting the hospital today.
The 10 metre ceiling collapsed at midnight on Saturday, missing two families seated nearby.
Initial investigation found signs of rust and cracks in the ceiling that was still under warranty.
Liow said the ceiling collapse did not affect the hospitals's service.
On the flood, he said three village clinics in Tenang and five village clinics in Segamat were cut off by floods.
However, Segamat hospital was not affected. Mobile teams would be dispatched to relief centres to help flood victims.
