DAP to move emergency motion on Sabah's 'fixed deposit'

~ By Queville To

KOTA KINABALU: The DAP is planning to move an emergency motion in Parliament soon to debate on the issue of the IMM13 document given to refugees in the state.

This was following the rejection of the emergency motion filed by its Sri Tanjung state assemblyman, Jimmy Wong, at the Sabah Legislative Assembly yesterday.

DAP national publicity assistant-cum-MP for Serdang Teo Nie Ching said at a news conference here that the party planned to table the motion in Parliament after State Legislative Assembly Speaker had informed Wong that the issue should be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.

“We plan to move the motion and hope we can get the support of all Sabah MPs, regardless of their political affiliations because IMM13 has become a serious issue for more than 10 years,” she said.

Teo also said that the “fixed deposit” of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government was now exposed as being made up of foreigners and “dubious citizens”.

Pointing to the extraordinary rapid population growth of Sabah, she said that DAP believed that of the 3.2 million population in Sabah, only 1.5 million are bona fide Malaysians.

More than half are foreigners who have been issued with MyKads, including those with IMM13, which is a refugee status document.

She said that from 1970 to 2000, Sabah has experienced a 301% increase in its population compared to Sarawak, which merely doubled over 30 years.

The population in Sabah increased from 648,693 in 1960 to 3.2 million in 2005.

“The population growth rate on average in Malaysia is 2.5% but in Sabah, the registered population growth rate is between 5% and 6%. From a population of about 650,000 in 1970, Sabah is now 'housing' a staggering 3.23 million people as of 2005. In a span of 10 years, Sabah has overtaken Sarawak in terms of population,” she said.

An act of treason

Teo said that the IMM13 was now mocked as the “Instant Make Malaysian Project for General Election 13”.

“We have sufficient grounds to believe that MyKads have been given to foreigners such as Filipinos, Indonesians and other foreigners,” she said.

She also said that the BN government had committed “treason” by giving out MyKads to foreigners as it meant selling off the interest of true Malaysians.

She added that the people of Sabah have become second-class citizens in their own land.

Wong, who was also present, said that based on the evidence of Sabah's population growth it was obvious that only the Bajaus, the so-called new Malaysians who have been absorbed as Muslim Bumiputeras, Indonesians and others are multiplying extremely fast.

The Filipinos, he said, appeared to have “disappeared” after 1970. The KadazanDusunMurut and Chinese are growing at a steady pace.

This extraordinary fertility rate, he said, would astound scientists as it showed that the KadazanDusun Murut and Chinese are less productive than the Bajaus, Malays and others.

“We also see that the Malays have made a tremendous surge in population from 1970 to 2000, at 1,552%. The Bajaus are not doing badly at 344% while the KadazanDusun Murut has achieved only 162% increment.

“During pre-independence and after independence there was only a sprinkle of Malays in Sabah (formerly North Borneo). Today we are 'swarmed' by Malays.

"It is not possible for the Malays in Peninsular Malaysia to come and settle in Sabah in such great numbers. In fact, we learnt that Peninsular Malaysians, especially teachers, are afraid to come and serve in Sabah,” Wong said.

The only conclusion is that Sabah has been infiltrated by people of dubious origin, he added.

Surge in population

Wong noted that this extraordinary population surge in Sabah has been explained in detail by journalist MD Mutalib in his book “IC Projek – Agenda tersembunyi Mahathir” and social activist Dr Chong Eng Leong in his book “Lest We Forget – security and sovereignty of Sabah”.

“Mutalib and Chong have explained at length that the surge in Sabah’s population is due to the influx of illegal immigrants. They have been systematically legalised by the Umno-BN government and put on the electoral roll.

"They have been categorised as either Bajaus or Malays. They are now Umno members and distributed in all the constituencies to ensure Umno and BN component parties win during any election. They are actually the fixed deposit of Umno in Sabah,” he said.

Wong noted that despite the allegations made in the books against the Umno-BN government, no police reports were lodged by Umno-BN or its supporters against the authors.

He said that issuing Malaysian documents, legalising illegal immigrants and putting them on the electoral roll were a serious breach of security. As such, the matter should be debated in Parliament, he added.

He noted that local leaders and government officials were more than willing to compromise the security and sovereignty of Sabah just to satisfy their political needs and financial gains.

“The issue is very serious. That is why I have tabled the motion in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly on the issue of IMM13 holders being given green cards.

“I am now voicing my concern for the future of Sabah and genuine Sabahans over this issue which, to Umno and BN leaders, is trivial and unimportant.

"Naturally they do not want to remove them (immigrants) when they are their fixed desposit... and a guarantee of holding on to power,” he said.

'Only rakyat can change all this'

Wong asked newly-elected MP for Batu Sapi Linda Tsen if she was content that she had obtained a big majority because her victory was due to the votes of the fixed deposit.

“I also ask PBS' Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Upko's Bernard Dompok and PBRS' Joseph Kurup – the three leaders of the KadazanDusun Murut community – if they are happy with the current situation and winning elections with the help of Umno's fixed deposit.

“I ask LDP's VK Liew if he is happy that illegal immigrants are being legalised and put on the electoral roll.

“I ask the Bajau leaders including community leaders if they are happy that legalised illegal immigrants are categorised as Bajaus and Malays. This Umno fixed deposit or new Bumiputeras are now taking over as leaders in the government and business. The Bajaus are fast becoming second-class citizens.

“Today I like to tickle the conscience of Sabah Umno leaders: where is your feeling for your countrymen? Is it worth the political glory, power and wealth while compromising your race and future generations?

"It is obvious that the leaders of Sabah Umno and BN component parties are enjoying perks and benefits. They have sold their souls and future generations away.

"They will continue to legalise every illegal immigrant in Sabah until none is left and the issue of illegal immigrants is thus solved. They will cultivate and nurture their fixed deposit and new Bumiputeras so that Umno and its partners will continue to rule Sabah," Wong said.

Wong also took a swipe at Sabah BN leaders for allowing this controversial takeover of state politics to continue.

"Only the rakyat can change all this. Genuine Sabahans have been deprived of many opportunities now. It is time to rise and tell the Umno-BN government that enough is enough. We want to take back our country.

"The people have a choice between Pakatan Rakyat and BN. If Pakatan is voted into Putrajaya, this issue (dramatic population surge in Sabah) will be dealt through a Royal Commission of Inquiry.”

Also present were DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and Sabah DAP chairman-cum-Kota Kinabalu MP Hiew King Cheu.
