[Msian Insider]Beng Hock’s sister: Report of British pathologist hired by MACC unprofessional

SHAH ALAM, April 26 — Despite detailed CT scans displayed in the coroner’s court today illustrating the massive injuries sustained by Teoh Beng Hock, the dead DAP political aide’s family were disappointed with the final report of the British pathologist hired by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Teoh’s younger sister Lee Lan, who acted as spokesman, told reporters outside the court she found Dr Peter Vanezis’s final report “unprofessional and unethical”.She said the family did not accept his finding that her brother was alive and fully conscious when he plunged to his death from a window on the 14th floor of Plaza Masalam here on July 16 last year.
“He’s not correct as a professional,” Lee Lan, 29, said.
“As a professional, I think anything you put in your final report should be fact based, not hearsay,” she added, referring to Dr Vanezis’s written report which had included a brief background of the facts leading to Teoh’s death as supplied to him by MACC officers.
She pointed out that the British pathologist had admitted the background information which had led to Teoh’s plunge was important to find out the real cause of his death.
Lee Lan said Dr Vanezis’s decision not to probe deeper by asking questions of the MACC officials who had briefed him on the events leading to the fall reflected poorly on his credibility.
“He said he’s not a detective,” she said, quoting the forensic expert.
“But how can he just accept what they say like this?” she quizzed.
Dr Vanezis’s report was made available to the public after he took to the witness stand this morning.
He later told the court that he had taken the MACC’s version of events into account but that it did not necessarily mean he accepted the data was 100 per cent accurate.
But the Teohs, who had avidly followed Dr Vanezis’s graphic explanation, disagreed and said the inclusion in the final report spoke volumes.
