Jessie說:My English homework....my thoughts

This is the third week I’m away form home, I miss home so much. It is not that I don’t like to go to school, but this week, everything in school is so depressing, I had bombed a math test, and also, I have two tests next week, but I don’t have any time to study for them because this week I’m going down to LA for an acting workshop. I hate tests, they are depressing, and as an Asian, grades and tests are the most important thing to our parents. I love my mom very much, but I have to say, I hate the fact that she cares about grades and college stuff so much. I don’t get why grades are so important, what can they prove? That you are good in taking tests? That you are the smartest person in the whole world? So what!? What’s so important of being smart? Bill Gates is not the smartest person in the whole world, but he made himself in to the top of the world! I just don’t understand why. I think the most important thing is your attitude, your personality. For example, I had met a girl who played in basketball team; I can say she is one of the top five players in the team, but the coach never put her in unless it’s necessary. The reason is because she has the worse sportsmanship ever, no one like her to be in the team. She knows the fact that she is really good, so she mocked everyone in the team that is worse than she is. I think that’s like school stuff, although you are the smartest person in the whole world, but if EQ is not high enough, you are not going to success. But why can’t my parents understand that. My parents always tell me that getting in to a good college is the main reasons of studying in a private school, so they think I shouldn’t spend so much time in sports and other school activities, but I think that is also very important in my life, it is like a experience for life after. The explanation from my dad “Colleges won’t care much about school activities, the only thing they care about is SAT…”
Is that true? What do you think?

i'm totally on your side! i don't think colleges only care
about SATs and academic grades and stuffs, they definitely
do care about extracurriculars and community services and
all that! so you don't have to be frustrated about these,
i agree with you! hehee :) think about if a person gets
4.0 for his GPA, but sucks at sports or untalented in
music, doesn't social with people and be a "zai nan," he
SUCKS AT LIFE! he is NOT successful AT ALL! so go, jessie!
    i support you! hahaha XD

not to be a party pooper or anything, but i wonder what
types of people do actually get in schools like MIT,
    Harvard, Yale, etc.
judging from the MIT logarythm group that visited just
recently, they looked nerdy. nonetheless i feel the same
as jessie and tiff in that grades help little in defining
who you ar as a person, yet they are a prerequisite that
gives you an oppurtunity to show what personality you can
    bring forth to colleges.

yeahh i know! i didn't mean that you could just forget
about academics and just focus only on extracurriculars.
it's easy for people to get good grades, MANY people could
do that! but it's HARD for people to be good at academic
AND extracurriculars! that's what makes a person stands
    out from the crowd!

    兩情相悅這種事雖然少見,但卻存在。感情
    一定會以一方先付出為開始,但是,先不代表

    情需要物質基礎,別非得等到承認失敗的時候
