Minor White, the great American photographer, once told a story. As a young man he visited the dying Alfred Stieglitz at his Manhattan gallery, An American Place, sometime about 1930. White asked him how to be a photographer. The dying Stieglitz asked him in return, "Have you ever been in love?" White said that he had. Stieglitz told him, "Then you can be a photographer." -Malcolm Venville, "Layers", Sping Publishing
