I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button yesterday.
It is such an inspiring, amazing, creative & worth-the-money movie.
Although it is a freaking 2 hours and 45 minutes movie, but I didn't feel that the movie is very draggy nor long winded.
The movie used the 'flashback' type of narration to tell the story of Benjamin Button.
It first started with a lady who was reading the diary of Benjamin Button as requested by her mum who was lying on her deathbed, without knowing that Button is actually her dad who passed away about 2 years ago.
He was a special and extraordinary man who lived his life backwards.
He was born with a wrinkled old face and he looked exactly like an old man in his seventies.
Benjamin Button's dad, Thomas Button was freaked off by the face of his "son".
Therefore Thomas abandoned him in front of a nursing home which took care of people in their old ages and whom were dying.
The scene whereby Benjamin sat on a wheelchair despite his age (5 years old) and his height (about the height of a 5-year-old) was absolutely amusing.
And Benjamin fell in love with an unhappy embassy wife who inspired to swim the English channel when he was only around 15-20 (of course with his 60ies face)
Due to his extraordinary fate of living life backwards, his perspective for death and life is somehow different from other people.
He was, of course, more mature, and had his first sexual intercourse and drank his 1st beer earlier than other people.
But in the end, he still loved the girl whom he met when he was 7 and she was 5.
The girl was Daisy, who was also the old lady lying on her deathbed with the accompanion of her daughter.
Daisy spent a few years of happy life with Benjamin when their ages intersected each other's ages of around 40+.
They had their first and only child - the girl who was reading the diary of Benjamin Button to her mum right now.
But time always have the last word, as shown by Daisy who was growing older and Benjamin who was growing younger physically (older mentally)
Benjamin left the house they built together because he didn't want to be a burden of Daisy and he didn't think that his daughter could accept a father who was growing younger physically.
Daisy found Benjamin a few years later, but as a pre-teen with pimples all over his face.
Benjamin had dementia that time, he couldn't even remember that he had lunch even when he actually did.
Daisy was the one who took care of Benjamin even though Benjamin turned from a pre-teen to a kid, and he eventually forgot how to walk, how to crawl, and how to talk.
Finally, he died in the arm of Daisy, and he looked exactly like a new born infant.
Benjamin was really very very good looking when he was young (physically) and old (mentally) and macho! haha xD
The story was quite touching during that part whereby Daisy persistently took care of Benjamin although he no longer recognized her.
It showed us how great love can be and how much love can do.
No matter how we live our lives, in the end we will still return to the same starting point.
Time always have the last word.
Some interesting & memorable quotes of the movie!
Benjamin Button: Along the way you bump into people who make a dent on your life. Some people get struck by lightning. Some are born to sit by a river. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim the English Channel. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people can dance.
Daisy: Would you still love me if I were old and saggy?
Benjamin Button: Would you still love ME if I were young and had acne? When I'm afraid of what's under the bed? Or if I end up wetting the bed?
THE FOLLOWING ONE IS COOL!!
Benjamin Button: Sometimes we're on a collision course, and we just don't know it. Whether it's by accident or by design, there's not a thing we can do about it. A woman in Paris was on her way to go shopping, but she had forgotten her coat - went back to get it. When she had gotten her coat, the phone had rung, so she'd stopped to answer it; talked for a couple of minutes. While the woman was on the phone, Daisy was rehearsing for a performance at the Paris Opera House. And while she was rehearsing, the woman, off the phone now, had gone outside to get a taxi. Now a taxi driver had dropped off a fare earlier and had stopped to get a cup of coffee. And all the while, Daisy was rehearsing. And this cab driver, who dropped off the earlier fare; who'd stopped to get the cup of coffee, had picked up the lady who was going to shopping, and had missed getting an earlier cab. The taxi had to stop for a man crossing the street, who had left for work five minutes later than he normally did, because he forgot to set off his alarm. While that man, late for work, was crossing the street, Daisy had finished rehearsing, and was taking a shower. And while Daisy was showering, the taxi was waiting outside a boutique for the woman to pick up a package, which hadn't been wrapped yet, because the girl who was supposed to wrap it had broken up with her boyfriend the night before, and forgot. When the package was wrapped, the woman, who was back in the cab, was blocked by a delivery truck, all the while Daisy was getting dressed. The delivery truck pulled away and the taxi was able to move, while Daisy, the last to be dressed, waited for one of her friends, who had broken a shoelace. While the taxi was stopped, waiting for a traffic light, Daisy and her friend came out the back of the theater. And if only one thing had happened differently: if that shoelace hadn't broken; or that delivery truck had moved moments earlier; or that package had been wrapped and ready, because the girl hadn't broken up with her boyfriend; or that man had set his alarm and got up five minutes earlier; or that taxi driver hadn't stopped for a cup of coffee; or that woman had remembered her coat, and got into an earlier cab, Daisy and her friend would've crossed the street, and the taxi would've driven by. But life being what it is - a series of intersecting lives and incidents, out of anyone's control - that taxi did not go by, and that driver was momentarily distracted, and that taxi hit Daisy, and her leg was crushed.
Benjamin Button: [letter to his daughter] For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.
Captain Mike: You can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.
Daisy: We all end up in diapers.
