nothing new on the news

The news today seems to be very nonsensical. One of my consultants described one of those papers as ‘soft porn'. That paper is Harian Metro.

The news, too, begins to shower plenty of unnecessary focus on minute stuff. First, we have Siti’s marriage, and then now, they are covering news about how Siti is showing signs of pregnancy. Oh, come on!!

Anyway, two main things are in our local papers. One the equity of bumiputeras, and another the cultural of mat rempit.

Just to be fair, I do care about the equity issue. But there's just nothing much I can do about it. As they speak off it, it is the battle between the big dogs, whoever it is. I believed as the young, erhmm, generation of Malaysian Chinese, without any statement from the elderly visionary KY Lee or ASLI, I already had a pre notion of our Chinese being marginalized in our own country. The statement that went public recently just serves as an "I told you so..." note, nothing more, and nothing less. Fullstop. More about it, and I maybe perhaps, ISA will be barking up my cheeky yellow ass.

As about Mat Rempit, since the movie that some smart  people from the government decided to give it the big green light or some dork believing that they could use that ‘manpower’ into actual beneficial work or channelling their energy into good use, I believe, we, Malaysian, are really sort of true believer in nonsensical idea. It is as if you believe that Joker will one fine day do community work, and Two Face to be the principal of an old folk’s home, nursing home, or an orphanage.

Today, sad but true, the Mat Rempits are starting to be stronger, as they dare to cast stone into a police station because their members are in it. Most of the young children nowadays dreamt of being a mat rempit, secretly defying their parents, because that 'mat rempit' label turns out to be pretty cool after all. But on one very funny note, where do they actually earn the money to have a motorbike. Any smart or stupid guesses would have nail 'parent' as the most probable answer. So, the real fault lies with the parents, of who had no idea what kind of responsibilities they are passing to their children.

In their mind, they are just allowing their child to take that old bike so that his 13 years old can go buy a roti canai at their favourite stall. Unknown to them, his child may be doing those 'rempit' stunts along the journey, and when accidents did happened

they blamed the other vehicles that bump into that bike,

they blamed the ambulance that took too long to reach that place,

they blamed the nurse who can't resuscitate that child,

they blamed the medical assistant for being too rough with the child,

they blamed the doctor or surgeon for not saving his child's life,

they blamed the director-general of health ministry for not sufficiently equipping the hospital with ventilator,

and at the end of it, they take it (or blame it) that it is their God's will.

But from the beginning till the end, from alpha to omega, it had always been the fault of the parents.

Media should do more than reporting. Reporting how much they dare to do these days without giving these culprits a name only makes them felt more heroic as they are part of the 'gang', and they continued to remain anonymously cool. I guessed more photos should be taken on the young kids who decided to do those dangerous stunts, and let their faces be seen on the national papers. By putting up 5 faces, I am sure, 5 hundred thousands other kids would think twice or thrice before they act stupidly, in fear of the shame, that they may do to their family.
