I heart VMware
My summer intern -VMware, a typical start-up booming from the Silicon Valley. For a compnay that went NYSE-listed in 2007, the pace of its growth is unimaginable.
It is now the 10th world-largest software company with US$1B revenue and 6,000+ employees worldwide.
You think I know all this before I joined the company? No.
The only thing I did pre-interview was to check their website and the only thing I knew about their product is - virtualization. And I don't even know what that is.
The more I worked with the people here, the more I like it here. Well, lifestyle is simply too good to be true.
Nice people, flexible working hours, free food, brand new gym, transportation from and to work, Friday beer bash and weekly intern events with more corporate gifts and food.
The best thing I like about the company is actually -
they have real products that sell and 90%+ market share in the field - true leadership.
It is rare at this timing to have any company which has sustainable competitive advantages to refrain competition up to at least 3-5 years and consider Microsoft and Oracle their competitor - threatening or threatened.
Yet, despite all the glittering facts, maybe youngsters at my age should ask for more than that.
Thank God for encountering me with all the interesting options time to time and challenge me with the courage to "take the extra mile."
Thru that, I know what I want clearly. I am counting the days to my 'real' summer vacation in two years time, finally and striving to finish my projects here.
Hopefully I won't get fired earlier than early August for too laidback working attitude. :P
Sincerely, I heart the company and hope that it can transform into another tech giant with modest & engineer-oriented culture.
Seriously, I don't see anything wrong with that. It is not always good to become one of those "corporates" and forget its own root - which brings its success up-to-date.
