I used to interview a lot of English teachers!
Basically the schools look for the following qualities in an English teacher:
1. Punctuality and reliability: I can't express how important this is. Ask any director and they'll tell you this is at the top of the priority list. Also they don't like teachers who move around schools too much.
Say something like: " I am a very punctual person. I have never been late for a class. If under some unforseeable circumstances where I might be kept from starting a class on time, e.g. being involved in a traffic accident, I would call the school as soon as possible."
"I would like to be a teacher in your school, because of your good reputation. I plan to contribute and learn as much as possible if I were hired. I would concentrate on working with only one school."
2. Flexible schedule: If your schedule is flexible you should let them know. Make sure you find out the the hourly rate for overtime.
Say something like:" My schedule is very flexible, so if you need me to take extra classes outside my designated ones, I'll be happy to do so and earn additional income."
3. Previous teaching experience, ability to draft lesson plans; classroom management skills.
Say something like:" I like to come to a class fully-prepared; Before each class, I always plan out the introductions, the language focus, the activities to implement, procedures for the implementation, and the wrapping up. Of course I also prepare the any required teaching tools (e.g. pictures, prompt cards) before hand."
4. Approachable personality.
Say something like: I like children / communicating with people, that's why I choose to be a teacher. I encourage students to come to me with any problems they might have with their learnings, and I am always happy to explain and communicate with the parents. I am sure my people's skill will be useful to my future job."
