It seems that someone is always unhappy with lawmakers 7 .
So this month, we're going to arm you to join in the fray 8 .
We are going to look at some of the social policies pursued 9 by the government and why they are loved ... or despised 10 .
An old saying says there are two things you can't escape 11 : death and taxes.
So, how does the tax system work?
Taiwan's income 12 tax system is set up so that if you make more money, then you pay a higher tax rate on that money.
This is called a progressive 13 tax system, and it is generally considered to be relatively 14 even-handed 15 .
But, there are always loopholes 16 .
Many times the loopholes are made to favor 17 one type of business or practice over another.
It isn't fair, but in the big picture, does it make sense?
This is one of the philosophical 18 questions we all must face.
