Monica's welcome letter

Freshman English

Welcome to my English Class! My name is Monica Chang Chien. I’m _?__ years old. Currently, I’m a full time teacher at Department of Applied English. In fact, I am a new comer just like you. I’ve been here in this city for just one month. I always get lost in downtown.
This will be my first semester teaching at Yuanpei, but I am quite an experienced teacher. I like reading and writing poems, and I also play basketball sometimes.

In my class please feel free to ask me any questions about learning the target language coz. that‘s the reason I’m here. No matter what question, I will give you an honest answer. You may also e-mail me with any questions you have. My e-mail address is lishu@mail.ypu.edu.tw

This will be different than most English classes you have had in high school. You’ll find that I am quite a different teacher than you may have had before. You will be challenged to think and express yourself in English! We will also cover different subjects and ideas that you may have never experienced in senior high before.

I have high expectations and high hopes for this class as I believe it will be the most demanding in your schedule, but I guarantee you will have a fun learning experience and learn more than you expect.

My Class Rules:

You WILL participate

You WILL ask questions

You WILL be on time

You WILL NOT be shy, quiet, lazy

You WILL NOT DOZE OFF!

If you do not follow my rules, I can be the normal, boring, repetitive teacher that you’ve had before and this class will be very boring, you will not learn anything new, and will be another waste of your time here. Deal?

I encourage you to stop me in class! Yes, stop me and tell me that you don’t understand an idea or word. That is the best way to learn! If you never ask, you will never know. I also believe that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Only stupid answers. Also, please come by my office (N674) and talk to me! Practice is the best way to learn, so please to practice English with me and with your classmates.

I like making deals at the very beginning of the semester. So, my deal to you is this: if you make the effort by paying attention, asking questions, and participating, then I will give you all my effort to make this a great learning experience while making sure you are having fun at the same time. Deal?

I want to discuss many topics about your career plan, school, or ANYTHING abut global issues that you want to talk about. Again, I have another deal, if you want to talk about something, then you have to tell me first, otherwise, I’ll stick to the schedule. I am not shy and I have no problem talking about sensitive issues.

Look forward to meeting all of you and speaking one on one! Enjoy!

Sincerely,
Monica C. C.
