Cultural Impacts
After watching the film “Outsourced” I get an idea which is the attitude determines altitude. In the beginning, Todd went to India unwilling and only wanted to escape there as soon as possible. Therefore, he used his viewpoint to train those Indian employees, but he failed. I like a scene which Todd experienced the Holi Festival, he really enjoyed the festival then he realized what’s wrong with the whole training and himself. The different culture and life style leads to distinct work attitude. When Todd tried to change his attitude and respect Indian culture, then those employees became well-trained personnel.
My own experience in Canada was very similar with this viewpoint but not the same. When I studied in Canada, I wonder why all my classmates always raised a question and even queried teacher. In my thought, how dared they can do that, it was too impolite and I was embarrassed to ask a question in front of all classmates. With time goes by, I know that when in Rome, do as the Romans do and throw the old thinking away because only by following western culture did I could progress. Then I pushed myself to conquer the fear of shyness and to ask a question. The culture in western is totally different from us; just like Todd, I can get well learning effect only when I fit in to Canadian way of life.
I am WEN-CHEN CHANG, the English name is Kay, now I study in Yuan Ze University of Applied Linguistics. Many people wonder why I am a piano teacher, but I study in Applied Linguistics. 2007 was a very important year for me. I was getting tired of my career and seized by the desire to study in abroad; therefore, I was on leave without pay and went to Canada to study. After I came back from Canada, I was really interested in English, so, I was set to learn English continually.
