波導的勇者 － InStyle




This idea actually originated from me thinking about putting clothes on some pokemon for my video project coming up when I was doing my storyboard. I also did two Riolu sketches when I was board at uni and used the computer for referencing. Later I decided that I could take this chance and really try to get more of my idea of The Wave Guiders story going - that is why I thought doing some poster designs would be good since I really liked these clothing designs on them anyway. Although I didn't use the central characters, but most of them are main characters from the story anyway, so it didn't really matter.
The main improvement or experimentation I did during this set of work was to not use the blender tool in corel painter at all when I'm coloring. If you look at my other works, I use blender tool to mix colors together, and I thought I've been doing that for far too long, and it's time I tried something different, so I thought maybe I could use the clean-cut style of coloring in many anime films where they do not blend the different colors. That is why this style resembles the TV series pokemon sort of style of coloring. But I also tried to make it more of my style, not focusing on copying the coloring to be exact or anything.
And another recent improvement is also the fact that I am taking more notice of the importance of background design and color use to a work and its final appearance. So when I thought of the idea of these really cool tiled background design, I also considered the coloring for each character's final appearance. Shadows was something I almost forgot about when working on the lighting on my characters - finding the light source when I was coloring them, and luckily I noticed pretty soon when coloring my first one - Manaphy. I think it really gives depth and mood to the poster.
I'm relatively happy with the logo design for 'The Wave Guiders' which I used the calligraphy pen (or was it the ink pen) to do. My writing is terrible, but luckily my original idea was something rough and messy anyway. But I guess I could make it even better, but right now I prefer to get the actual manga or drawings related to the manga going, rather than spending time being fussy over the title's logo.

This Riolu's clothing design is adapted from a Japanese band named 'Home Mada Kazoku's'  Album cover - I think.  The only things I changed were the design for the T-Shirt's picture, and added chains and pokemon key rings.
I think the sunglasses turned out really nice despite I did not use the blender tool - instead for these kind of things I figured out another method - which was to drop down my paint brush's opacity so colors can mix easily with each other.
This proves that limiting yourself from using familiar techniques makes you think about other optional methods and makes you improve.



Pachirisu was the second one I did the coloring for. Actually I was almost crying with tears when I finished my Manaphy and Pachirisu drawing. I did these drawings in groups of threes. But Riolu was on a seperate one so I brought it in to the Manaphy and Pachirisu file to work on them together. When it took ages to do Manaphy and Pachirisu because they were so round and it was hard to do free hand, by the time I got to Riolu I was all exhausted. Then one little idea messed everything up - I thought "Hey I need to delete this thing I drew wrong on Riolu, can't be bothered to use the eraser, why don't I select all and delete?" At this point I was zoomed in to Riolu and had forgotten about the other two, and only noticed after I finished Riolu's pen lining. And conveniently I have been saving frequently recently, which meant I could not close and re-open the file. So I had to redraw the other two...
Pachirisu's design comes from Ciel - character from a manga named 'Kuroshitsuji'. I added the hat and a little staff. But later when I was doing the lining for Sentret, I realized I could follow the idea from Manaphy of using pokemon as designs on their clothing, that is why I changed the staff and the container to a unown and pictures of Luvdisc. Pachirisu for me turned out to be one of the most difficult to color in because the shadows on his body looked weird no matter how I did it. I also played around with the words that says his name. Nethertheless, Pachirisu is still very cute, especially wearing a little suit.



There were about at least three characters that really stopped my coloring process because I didn't know what colors to do for their clothing. I had this color palette book that demonstrated different sets of palettes with different meanings and after multiple attempts, I finally decided that the 'Chocolate Palette' was the best and it really made the simple clothing which I designed come to life and become something even I would look at and say "Hey I want that coat" XD



Anyone with a little bit of idea for color matching knows that a common thing they do for these kind of button shirts and vest kinda thing with a tie, is that they tend to have white, black and red as the trio color to use. That is what I had in mind, but I knew as I colored Smeargle in, that having a bit of blue would be better, but then red might not fit in. A while ago when I hadn't colored these in I saw someone do a blue tailed Smeargle in deviantart, and each of my characters are unique pokemon or different to the usual ones, and he has a personality of easily been blue and thinks people might want to harm him so I thought blue would be really cool to put on him rather than the usualy green. And partially because blue is one of my favourite colors, so that is how Smeargle's color design came about. And red was tried on the tie but obviously stood out strangely in the blue and brown palette, so I chose to match the tie with his tail. This again was my own design work, something I saw someone wearing on the street and thought immediately it would fit on Smeargle.

終於開始寫我們【神地影子】村的事件簿囉～～嘻嘻

因為是第一篇文章，所以我稍做說明。【神地影子】是我要畫的漫畫 【波導的引導者】裡主角們所住的村子的名稱。

而且，我們村子裡的居民全都是【神奇寶貝】喔～



故事裡的主要角色很多，但是主角有三個：

【路卡利歐】

【超音波幼蟲】

【利歐路】


目前故事還在編寫中，而我正在寫的是關於【利歐路】的故事。村民要有哪一些【神奇寶貝】我也大致上都想好了。當然除了這故事以外我還會有很多其他章繼續將 我們的世界發展下去。 因此，我也常在邊聽音樂，或是邊玩電動想著 “ 下次要畫什麼樣的故事？ “ ，“ 還有誰會很有趣呢？ “

嘻嘻，結果那天玩電動玩到一半就有靈感了！
