Turkey vs. Peking Duck
“Turkey vs. Peking Duck-VEC3D 4.0”
Today we discuss food of Canada and Taiwan.
During the discussion, I learn that pasta just means noodles.
Before this class, I always think that spaghetti and pasta are the same. F
or Jason, he loves to eat pancakes, pizza, and casserole ( it is a pasta dish with a sauce which usually contains vegetables such as onion, green pepper and tuna. )
Then, the dinner, he loves to eat cold cuts, lunch meat, luncheon meat, which is thinly sliced meat used to make sandwiches.
He also loves to eat roast beef, baked ham, steak, pork chops, and these are the foods I want to try and love too.
For dessert, it is my favorite part, Jason likes to eat apple pie with banana and vanilla ice cream and cheddar cheese.
Whenever it comes to talk about dessert, most of women will feel excited and want to eat all of them even if they are full.
No wonder everyone will say that women have two stomachs.
Jason also talks about he loves pumpkin pies, but I feel disgusted because I don’t like it. This doesn’t mean I hate it, I just feel strange when I taste it.
Finally, he says he likes to eat rice pudding which is made by milk and raisins. I don’t think I really know what he talks about. I just know pudding is delicious.
The cultural difference we discuss is the table manner.
First, Canadian won’t spit the bone on the table.
On the contrary, they will spit it into a napkin (it’s also called serviette). I think it‘s kind of inconvenient.
In Taiwan, you can spit it to the plate and then the waiter will come to take it after some dishes.
Then, when they want to eat some dishes which are away from them, they will say “please pass me the…” rather than stand up to take it.
In Taiwan, we have a convenience table, if you want to eat a dish, you can turn the little table to get the food you want.
Next, I think we all share the same manner that no talking with food in your mouth.
In Taiwan, it’s definitely serious that you can’t stick your chopsticks in your bowl.
It’s a bad behavior like you inset the incense stick to the dead people.
Also, you can’t make noise by knocking the bowl, you’ll annoy someone.
And then, we have a proverb refers to you have to eat all of your food or you’ll marry a mate with zits (this is what we called pimples).
Finally, because of time constraint, we talk about the cooking method such as deep frying, pan frying (stir frying), steam, boiling, and grilling, and then we finish the class quickly.
I don’t familiar with Canada, so I hope to discuss more food of Taiwan.
