Royal Warriors by Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada
I was wondering why I borrowed this 1986 movie from the library and when I put it on, everyone in the TV room ran. It is that old. Well, I screened through it quickly and now realized I had been borrowing everything of Hiroyuki Sanada and back then, he is called Henry Sanada.
This movie is very unappetizing and old fashioned but if you give it a few minutes, you would realize that it is worth screening. Michelle Yeoh's moves, when not balleric, is really punchy. Less nonsensical than Jackie Chan. A kick is a real kick to bring down the enemy, not at objects that are made to fall on opponents. Her head kicks are pretty. But that is not the only thing to watch for. This got to the most action I have seen so far of Hiroyuki Sanada. I'll take it that they may have sped up the film but Sanada's kick are powerful and quick. You could see he's really agile and trained. Unlike say, Tony Leung or Takeshi Kaneshiro, those are choreographed and emphasized the final contact point and fall. With Sanada, you actually see his many sweep and swing kicks at the heads. OMG...those scenes are worth watching a couple of times. I wonder why he didn't do more HK movies at its heyday. Perhaps the HK audience and directors didn't appreciate him. He looked so young and was no different from a Johnny Entertainment artist...haha...The story...see below...
