About this talk
At TED2009, Al Gore presents updated slides from around the globe to make the case that worrying climate trends are even worse than scientists predicted, and to make clear his stance on "clean coal."
About the speaker
Once the US Vice President, then star of An Inconvenient Truth, now Nobel Peace Prize winner, Al Gore found a way to focus the world's attention on climate change. In doing so, he has invented a new medium -- the Keynote movie -- and reinvented himself.
The well-known environmentalist Al Gore delivers this speech in a brisk and very impressive way. He shows us the pictures which manifest the rapid speed of ice cap melting. The frozen carbon has melted immensely. And the global warming also causes fires in many places. Besides, he shows one big problem which is fuel industry, especially coal. He said that clean coal is an oxymoron. That is, there is no such thing as "clean" coal. However, the coal industry and environmentalists like Al Gore have involved in the political battles. He shows us some video clips which are very ironic. He introduces the Repower America, which substitute the clean power like sun and wind for coal and fuel. What's more, Repower America also increases the employment and help stop global warming. He ends this short talk with an African proverb: "If you want to go quick, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." And he concludes, "We need to go far, quickly." This presentation ends impressively. I recommend you to see it.
