glean (v.)

is Standard, meaning either "to gather painstakingly, laboriously" or simply "to gather," as in We gleaned what we could from the local gossip

Glean still has its historic sense, "to collect grain left behind by the reapers," although the job itself has practically disappeared from Western agriculture.
