Hold on

Its already more than one month since July which is the beginning of my internship

Goooood...sounds nice, right? haha... but i still have five months

So...KEEP GOING!!!

After one month, something changed in my mind compare to the views as the beginning. Initially, i thought there is no point for me to do the same thing just like I did in Taiwan—as a server. But i cant do any order here because im not familiar with every dish and also my French is not good enough to do that. Its quite frustrated and I always struggle with myself when I see there are many guests who are waiting for making order, however, the only thing I can do is to carry those drinks and dish for them and collect those plates when they finish their meal. Sometimes this situation let me feel im very stupid and can not help anything…

Well, during this month, i try to remember and recognize the dish and the names in French. Also, this environment gives me many chances to listen and practice French. Maybe I cant understand the whole sentence when they said but just pick up some keywords than ask them again to make sure everything is ok. i hope my language ability will be improved at the end of internship.

Before i always complain about there is no opportunity to use English because the guests always speak French with me until two weeks ago, a British man who came to Swiss for business vacation and went to our restaurant to have a dinner with his friend. The reason why I could recognize he is a british because he has a strong English accent and that’s an accent what i like. Haha! So I took order in English for him and chatted a while. I was really happy at that moment because I use English not French. It seems really ridiculous, huh? Perhaps I just want to escape from the French region because i used to speak English in the past 4 months.

However, maybe I practice French a lot everyday (at least 6 hours), now i still speak French when the guest ask me something in English. Last week, there was a guest asked for take away and he couldn’t understand the menu because its all in French so i explained to him and asked him what kind of meat and dish he prefers. In the conversation, I felt that my brand and my mouth could not coordinate. When I wanted to speak English I spoke in French. So annoying!!! I just kept say sorry and than kept taking order for him.

Now I try to enjoy the work even though its not a interesting job and I always get lots of muscle sore after the daily work, but im glade that I have this opportunity to make a progress in my language ability. The only thing I should do is be brave and be stronger.
