Kindermann or Rollei projector?

Chris Quan , sep 11, 2002; 03:00 a.m.
I plan to buy a Kindermann projector (Kindermann Telefocus 66). I wonder if I should get ROLLEI DUAL FORMAT 35MM/6X6 SLIDE PROJECTOR or Rollei P66E 6x6 Slide Projector instead?

TIA

Chris

Best-in-class 6x6 projector: Hasselblad Most economical: Kindermann

Most versatile: Rollei Dual

Most esoteric: Projection attachment for Rollei TLR (those with removable finders), available used.

Chris,

I recently purchased a Rollei Dual 66 P projector with the Rollei 120mm AV Apogon lens. (In fact, it arrived only a few days ago.) I plan on posting a comprehensive review in this forum in the near future. Please e-mail me if you have any questions about this projector.

What is you budget?

Are you intending to buy just one projector, or two or three?

What screen/room size do you have in mind, so what lenght of lens are you looking for?

Hasselblad PCP80 projectors are superb, and still available very cheaply on E-bay. Long lenses are difficult to find - most of mine I got through E-Bay from Germany.

I have three PCP80s, and three of each of 75mm, 150mm and 250mm lenses, all acquired in the last sseveral months.

The 250mm fills a 2.5m screen at 40 feet.

When they can find the leads for me I will buy a Stumfel controller.

I have a Rollei projector, and I would not recommend them - want to buy it?

I am in Evesham, England, where are you?

Chris I bought a new 66T Kindermann almost five years ago. It projects bright sharp images but is a bit noisey. Probably the most economical machine to buy new in comparison to Hasselblad (no longer manufactured) or Rollei. Seems to be a very sturdy machine but does lack some of the choices of the more expensive brands. For example, there's no automatic bulb replacement when there's a burn out during your presentation. Just try to imagine replacing a blazing hot bulb by hand! I look forward with dread to that. You might want to consider that if you're going to giving a lot of group presentations where you want to avoid embarrassment (and burnt fingers). Well, you could perhaps use an insulated glove but I havn't found one yet. Incidentally, You should really study Dick Roadnight's criteria when buying a projector. They're very appropriate.

I bought a used Kindermann 66T for $300.00. Everything is manual but the images are amazing. I haven't used the rollie.

Chris

Quite frankly, the best 6x6cm projector that I have ever seen is the Leitz Prado 66-500 watt, with their best 150mm f2.8 lens.

It does not have a changer, just a 2 slide "shuttle-bar", as I call it. The quality of the projected image just blows away the other projectors, including the Rollei and Hasselblad.

If you ever see any for sale, snap it up. You'll not be sorry.

Jerry
