G.O.G.:My Teaching Rule

Have you had the difficulty in learning some courses?
Have you had the experience of being confused with what the
teacher was teaching, and thinking he had bad teaching skills?

Maybe you’ve done it or not. Actually, I also have a lot of
such experiences. Let’s imagine a picture: A teacher, looking
so serious, standing on the podium, some difficult terminologies
and sentences are spoken out from his mouth. Also, his awful
handwriting always hurts your eyes. Now, I believe all the
students in the classroom must be trying their best to write
down all the notes on the blackboard with nodding head.
Trust me! The nodding is not understanding, but sleeping!
Of course, there still exist humorous teachers: Look! The
theorem is very difficult! How to prove it? Is there any
volunteer? Would you? Oh~~ I think all of you don’t know
how to prove it, but I do! Because I have the solution book…

OK! Let’s come back to the subject of the speech. I believe
each of you has had some comments on teachers. So have I.
In my opinion, I think a good teacher should have three abilities.
The first is: He should have good-looking handwriting. Maybe some
people think it doesn’t matter, but I think it’s very important.
Let’s look at the mathematical statement. It has been too hard
to understand. As a kind teacher as you, would you be hardhearted
enough to make your students’ eyes tired? Besides, Good-looking
words can not only make the students feel more relaxed, but also
make them pay more attention on the blackboard. Perhaps, you
can use cute words to express the notes. Look! Would you think
the MATH has become cute?

The second ability is: Organized teaching. Reading textbooks
word by word is not allowed. As the example of handwriting,
the content of the textbook has been too difficult to understand,
we prefer to listen to the familiar language in order to think
about it more smoothly. For instance, compared with teaching
history by just speaking “What year? What happened?”, telling
a vivid historical story would be more attractive.

At last, the third ability is: Give spiritual support to student.
Sometimes, learning process is very suffering. A teacher may
share some studying skills and experiences with students or
comfort those having bad scores. For example, facing with some
depressed student having difficulty in learning Calculus, you may
comfort him by saying that: Well, when I was a college student,
I also felt Calculus was very difficult and abstract. However,
after I studied it again and again, I got my grade improved.
So, trust me, practice more, and you’ll be better! Essentially,
It’s a very difficult subject. If you don’t pass it, don’t
be so sad! It’s unexceptional. Because I didn’t pass it before.
Saying that, the student would think you are as friendly as a
friend. Thus, the atmosphere of teaching would turn freer and
easier. Of course, the example I said was just an example. You
can think of a better one.

Recently, I have got a home teaching case, teaching a high school
student how to study math. To my surprise, teaching by the three
principles, the student’s mom came to tell me that her son has
been active to do math exercise himself. I also find some confidence
grew on his face despites his grade hasn’t been improved a lot.
While teaching him, I reviewed a lot of mathematical concepts and
found some misunderstanding ones I ignored before. That’s the so
called “Teaching and learning promote and enhance each other.”

All in all, to an inexperienced learner, a good teacher is very
vital. It’s like the compass leading him to the right direction
in the vast knowledge world. Now, let’s open the mouth and speak
after me. ( G.O.G.) Practice the G.O.G. rule, an excellent
teacher you will be.
