Music from 7/23 to 7/30 (網誌, 相簿, 個人資料, and 留言板)
If there’s any music form that is truly red-white-and-blue, it’d be country music. Its root is firmly blue-collared without the influence of black music. Generations of country acts, be them big or small, had been firmly down-to-earth, from their costume, show venues, to fan interaction. Although the past decade many country music lovers felt that country music has been increasingly pop-ified and gentrified, not all new talents are into glamorizing country.
34 year old Brad Paisley is one rare emerging country music star that sticks to traditional country.
Born and raised inWest Virginia (a real southern country bumpkin), Brad was introduced to guitar by his grandpa at the age of 8. By the time he turned 12, he started writing his own music and appeared in local shows and radio. His dream, like many would-be country singers, was to move to Nashville after high school to seek out recognition.
After moving to Nashville, Brad got the best advice from a producer. He was told to go to college and get a degree. He eventually got a degree in music management from Belmont University and formed a few very important connections.
Brad’s music is considered traditional country with twangy guitar licks and his down-home vocal style. However, his arrangement is a blend of swing, blues, bluegrass, and ballads. His lyrics are also rooted in reality and full of humor. Listening to his albums (he has 4 since 2000), they are never filled with the same type of songs. He has songs for guys, for gals, and for everymen. Like many country legends before him, Brad is a whiz in live shows. Unlike pop singers, country singers usually do shows in smaller venues that are fan-central. They sign autographs and pose for photos with fans after the shows. Brad proudly carries this tradition even though his shows are now filling sports arenas across the country.
He fell in love with Kimberly Williams seeing her in her debut movie “Father of the Bride” (co-starring Steve Martin). In 2001, he invited her to film a music video for his hit single “Celebrity”. Sparks flied and his feelings were reciprocated. They were married in Malibu, California in 2003 and now living in a 85-acre farm outside of Nashville.
Alcohol (網誌)
This song, like “Whisky Lullaby” (a duet with Allison Krauss that made him well-known nationally), is a song about drinking. Brad’s lyric is truthful and hilarious at the same time, a worthy addition to join other drinking anthems. In it he mentioned about people being so drunk that they’d put on a lampshade. In his current Time Well Wasted tour (to promote his latest CD Time Well Wasted), concert goers would bring lampshades of their own design to wear during the concert and to sing along with this song.
When I Get Where I Am Going (with Dolly Parton) (個人資料)
This song earned Brad a song of the year Country Grammy last year. It has a haunting melody and spiritually rooted theme in its lyrics. He and Dolly Parton both have very distinct vocals but the harmony blended beautifully together. It is a song Johnny Cash would have embraced in his winter years.
I’ll Take You Back (相簿)
Brad did not waste any time to get into this song right after his trade mark rapid fire guitar riff. Guys love this song if they were ever vowed to never take a woman back. Listen to the lyrics closely, the singer was saying that only if all the impossible feats would happen would he take his ex back. It is also a great song for a fast two-step on the dance floor.
Time Warp (留言板)
Brad is first and foremost a world-class guitar player. This instrumental piece perfectly showcased his jazz infused country style guitar playing. He uses custom made Crook Telecaster Guitars and Dr. Z Amplifier for his signature twang sound. It also demonstrates how good a team player Brad is. He and his band have been touring for years. Although he’s the draw, he always lets his sidemen shine, not hugging the spotlight.
